The Sacred Account of Gokarṇa, Śṛṅgeśvara, and Related Tīrthas
śuśrūṣayā ca parayā gokarṇeśvaramavyayam || yadā tu tasya tuṣṭo vai varadaḥ śaṃkaraḥ svayam
Varāha
It provides a Purāṇic textual witness to the cult-title 'Gokarṇeśvara' and frames the site through service (śuśrūṣā) and divine favor motifs common to tīrtha-māhātmya literature.
Gokarṇa is identified through the deity-name Gokarṇeśvara; in scholarship it is commonly associated with the coastal Karnataka region (modern Gokarna), though Purāṇic usage may include broader sacral geographies.
The verse foregrounds śuśrūṣā—attentive, disciplined service—as a valued disposition in sacred-site practice.
