Description of the Māhātmya of Gokarṇeśvara and Jaleśvara (Śaileśvara) in the Śleṣmātaka Forest
saṃvatsaraṃ yastu pūrṇaṃ tatra snāyān naraḥ sadā | guhyakaḥ sa bhaved āśu rudrasyānucaraḥ sudhīḥ ||
Varāha (default, instructor voice)
It reflects a widespread Purāṇic tīrtha-māhātmya pattern: extended bathing observances (vrata-like discipline) are framed as producing elevated posthumous or semi-divine status, illustrating the social history of pilgrimage and ritual timekeeping.
The specific tīrtha is referenced anaphorically as “there” (tatra), implying continuity with the immediately preceding location in Adhyāya 215; this fragment alone does not uniquely identify a modern site.
The verse promotes sustained discipline and regular practice (sadā snāna for a full year) as a model of self-regulation and ritual commitment.
