Description of the Māhātmya of Gokarṇeśvara and Jaleśvara (Śaileśvara) in the Śleṣmātaka Forest
yāvanti bhuvi tīrthāni hy ā-samudra-sarāṁsi ca | kṣetre ’smiṁs tāni tīrthāni cāgamiṣyanti matkṛte ||
Varāha (default dialogue framework)
It uses a common māhātmya strategy: declaring a site as a microcosm of all pilgrimage places, strengthening its ritual and cultural prestige.
The verse refers to ‘this kṣetra’; subsequent verses connect the narrative to Himavat and the region called Nepāla.
Water-bodies (sarāṁsi) and pilgrimage landscapes are treated as heritage resources worthy of protection and respectful use.
