The Return of Naciketas from Yama’s Abode: Inquiry into Death, Karma, and Dharmic Release
atha naciketaso āgamanavarṇanam || vaiśampāyana uvāca || gataś ca paramaṁ sthānaṁ yatra rājā durāsadaḥ || arcitas tu yathānyāyaṁ dṛṣṭvaiva tu visarjitaḥ
Vaiśampāyana
It situates a Naciketas–Yama narrative within Purāṇic transmission, showing how themes known from earlier Upaniṣadic material circulate in later narrative ecosystems.
No earthly geography is specified; the ‘highest place’ is an otherworldly royal domain associated with Yama.
As a transition verse, it primarily establishes narrative setting; the ethical teaching is implied to follow in the ensuing dialogue about conduct and outcomes.
