Determination of the Origin and Procedure of the Ancestral Offering
Pitṛyajña/Śrāddha
mṛtaṃ nāma tathoddiśya dadyāt piṇḍaṃ mahītale || tadāprabhṛti cāśaucaṃ devakarma na kārayet ||
Varāha (default, dialogue framework)
It reflects a shared Purāṇic–Dharmaśāstra ritual vocabulary for funerary offerings (piṇḍa) and the regulated period of mourning (āśauca), useful for reconstructing medieval South Asian ritual norms.
No specific pilgrimage site or geographic toponym is named here; the only spatial marker is 'mahītala' (the ground/earth).
To observe a structured mourning discipline: perform the intended offering for the deceased and refrain from deity-ritual engagements during the āśauca period.
