The Efficacy of Circumambulating Annakūṭa
Govardhana
tatra snānaṃ tarpaṇaṃ ca kṛtvā phalam avāpnuyāt || rājasūyāśvamedhānāṃ dhūtapāpmā na saṃśayaḥ ||
Varāha
It exemplifies a Purāṇic strategy of equating pilgrimage rites with older Vedic-style royal sacrifices, indicating shifts toward accessible devotional and tīrtha-based religiosity.
The verse refers back to the immediately preceding tīrtha context in the chapter (Govardhana/Puṇḍarīka-related sites), rather than naming a new location here.
Cultivation of purification and accountability (dhūtapāpmā) through regulated practices (snāna, tarpaṇa), framing moral renewal as attainable without elite-only rites.
