The Efficacy of Circumambulating Annakūṭa
Govardhana
athā’nnakūṭa-parikrama-prabhāvaḥ | śrī-varāha uvāca | asti govardhanaṃ nāma kṣetraṃ paramadurlabham | mathurā-paścime bhāge adūrād yojana-dvayam ||
Varāha
It documents a pilgrimage practice (parikramā) and locates Govardhana relative to Mathurā, offering evidence for how Purāṇic texts encode regional sacred landscapes.
Govardhana is identified near Mathurā; it corresponds to the Govardhan area in the Braj region (Uttar Pradesh), widely recognized in historical and pilgrimage literature.
The passage frames pilgrimage and circumambulation as disciplined cultural practices that cultivate memory, restraint, and reverence toward sacred landscapes.
