Praise of the Sacred Geography of Mathurā
piṇḍadānāt tu tatraiva pitṛloke sa gacchati || gayā piṇḍapradānena yatphalaṃ labhate naraḥ || tatphalaṃ labhate devi jyeṣṭhe dānān na saṃśayaḥ ||
Varāha (default, addressed to Devī/Pṛthivī)
It documents the Purāṇic equivalence-making strategy—linking local tīrthas and calendrical observances (Jyeṣṭha) with pan-Indian ritual centers like Gayā.
Gayā is explicitly named as a major ancestral-rite site; the verse also implies a local tīrtha-context where piṇḍadāna and dāna are performed.
It emphasizes charitable giving and ancestral remembrance as socially valued duties, framed as actions with commemorative and moral consequences.
