The Greatness of the Śālagrāma Sacred Region
guhyaṃ vidyādharaṃ nāma tatra kṣetraṃ paraṃ mama || pañca dhārāḥ patantyatra himakūṭaviniḥsṛtāḥ ||
Varāha (default, instructional voice)
It preserves a toponymic chain (kṣetra-name plus mountain source), useful for studying how Purāṇas encode pilgrimage networks and environmental features.
A kṣetra called “Vidyādhara” and a mountain “Himakūṭa” are named; the excerpt alone is insufficient for definitive modern identification.
The verse frames mountain waters as heritage-bearing features, encouraging careful, respectful interaction with natural water sources.
