Exposition of the Glory of the Mandāra Sacred Grove
diśaṃ vāyavyam āśritya tasmin vindhyaśilocchaye || tisro dhārāḥ patanty atra musalākṛtayaḥ śubhāḥ ||
Varāha (default, descriptive voice)
It provides a directional and geomorphological description (streams on a rock-mass), which is valuable for studying how Purāṇas encode landscape features into sacred geography.
Vindhya (विन्ध्य), a major mountain range in the Indian subcontinent; however, the verse’s ‘śilocchaya’ remains a generalized landmark without a single secure modern pinpoint.
By marking streams as ‘śubhāḥ’ and carefully locating them by direction, the text implicitly encourages attentive, respectful engagement with culturally significant waterscapes.
