The Episode of the Khañjarīṭa Bird
and the Saukarava Tīrtha’s Merit
kim idaṃ cintitaṃ vatsa gamane saukaraṃ prati || adyāpi mat-stanau dhanyau prasṛtau hi divāniśam ||
Pṛthivī (default dialogue framework)
It documents how sacred travel is framed against kinship bonds, using embodied maternal imagery common to Sanskrit narrative to intensify ethical tension.
‘Saukara’ (related to ‘Saukarava’) is explicitly named as the direction of travel; it is linguistically linked to ‘sūkara’ (boar), aligning with Varāha-associated sacred geography.
The verse invites reflection on competing duties—care obligations and spiritual/geographic aspiration—without presenting either as automatically overriding.
