Varāha
Attentive, receptive to ritual instruction
How should the ritual substances (gandha-pātra) be taken up and consecrated so they become pure and liberative (saṃsāra-mokṣaṇa)?
When sensory enjoyments are purified and offered in a Vaiṣṇava mode, they become instruments of liberation rather than bondage.
In pūjā/saṃskāra contexts, select clean, sattvic fragrances and mentally dedicate them to Viṣṇu, treating the act as purification of desire rather than indulgence.
Varāha instructs Bhūmi in a mantra-driven ritual act: taking up fragrance-vessels as purified Vaiṣṇava offerings.
Fragrance here functions as sattvic upacāra: sensory refinement redirected to Viṣṇu becomes a purifier of saṃskāras; ‘sarva-gandha’ suggests the totality of sense-objects being gathered and offered back to the Lord, a micro-yajña of the senses.
Gandha-pātra as upacāra-vessels parallels yajña-pātra; ‘śuddha’ marks ritual-śauca; ‘sarva-saṃsāra-mokṣaṇam’ frames offering as a liberative yajña-act.
Bhakti-yoga and karma-yoga synthesis: sense-objects (viṣaya) are not rejected but consecrated (īśvara-arpana), weakening bondage (bandha) and purifying antaḥkaraṇa.
Use pure, wholly Vaiṣṇava, well-being-suited fragrances as sanctioned ritual substances, treating them as spiritually efficacious offerings rather than mere luxury goods.
Properly consecrated and offered fragrances support purity and detachment, functioning as a means toward release from saṃsāra; impure/unsanctioned use undermines ritual fruit and purity.
128.2.0 (pūrvamantreṇa…—links back to an ‘earlier mantra’ used for dīkṣā)
It documents the ritual vocabulary of scented offerings (gandha) and frames them within Vaiṣṇava identity markers, useful for studying temple liturgy and devotional material culture.
No geographic location is named in this mantra.
Purity (śuddhi) and disciplined offering-practice are presented as supportive conditions for liberation-oriented religious life.
