पश्यते च ततस्तत्र रममाणं यदृच्छया ॥ नकुलेन सह व्याल्या तदा युद्धमभूच्च तत् ॥११॥ सम्पन्ने ते तु मध्याह्ने माघमासे तु द्वादशीम् ॥ तया स दष्टो नकुलो नाशाय मम मन्दिरे
paśyate ca tatas tatra ramamāṇaṃ yadṛcchayā || nakulena saha vyālyā tadā yuddham abhūc ca tat ||11|| sampūrṇe te tu madhyāhne māghamāse tu dvādaśīm || tayā sa daṣṭo nakulo nāśāya mama mandire
फिर उसने वहाँ देखा कि एक खेलता हुआ जानवर है। अचानक नेवला और साँप में लड़ाई हो गई। यह तब हुआ जब दोपहर थी, माघ महीने की बारहवीं तारीख को। साँप ने नेवला को काट लिया, उसके मंदिर में। वो मरने के करीब था।
