Praise of Varāha and Pṛthivī’s Foundational Questions
śeṣaparyaṅkaśayane suptaṃ devaṃ janārdanam | dṛṣṭvā tannābhipaṅkastham antaḥsthaṃ ca caturmukham || kṛtāñjalipuṭā devī stutiṃ dhātrī jagāda ha || 1.19 ||
Devī (Goddess; likely Śrī/Lakṣmī in the Nārāyaṇa cosmic-sleep frame)
It preserves a widely attested Purāṇic cosmogonic motif—Nārāyaṇa resting on Śeṣa and Brahmā arising/appearing in relation to the navel-lotus—serving as a conventional narrative prelude that situates later teachings within a cosmic frame.
No specific geographic site is named in this verse; it is primarily cosmological and narrative-setting rather than a tīrtha or regional description.
The verse foregrounds a discipline of reverent speech: the Goddess approaches with joined hands and offers praise, modeling respectful address and contemplative attention before instruction or discourse.
