Some perform precisely the Prajāpati-offering (iṣṭi). Or one may omit it and perform only the Agni-offering. For Agni indeed is the vital breath (prāṇa); by this one establishes (or ‘makes’) prāṇa itself. One should perform only the Traidhātavīya rite; by this, indeed, the three constituents—namely sattva, rajas, and tamas—are (ritually) addressed. With the mantra, “This is your womb, O priests, from which, when born, you shone forth; knowing that, O Agni, ascend it; then increase our wealth,” one should smell (inhale the scent of) the fire. (And one says:) “This indeed is Agni’s womb: O prāṇa, go; go to your own source—svāhā.” Thus, indeed, it is said.
