Because it is inaccessible to speech, that (reality/awareness) remains, as it were, in an eternal state of non-being; having reached the condition of the accomplished state in which there is no self (nairātmya), it alone remains. Covered within by the impurities that are the maladies of striving and non-striving, that consciousness is not able to be produced (manifested), like a bird bound by a snare. Creatures, through delusion of duality arising from desire and aversion, have come to the condition of insects sunk into a fissure in the earth.

Āvaraṇa (veiling) of consciousness by mala; bondage through rāga-dveṣa and dvandvasMahavakya: Indirect—harmonizes with ‘अहं ब्रह्मास्मि’ by implying that the apparent absence is only non-recognition of one’s own consciousnessAtharvaChandas: Anuṣṭubh (śloka-like)
