सोऽभिमानादूर्ध्वमुत्क्रामत इव तस्मिन्नुत्क्रामत्यथेतरे सर्व एवोत्क्रामन्ते तस्मिञ्च प्रतिष्ठमाने सर्व एव प्रतिष्ठन्ते । तद्यथा मक्षिका मधुकरराजानमुत्क्रामन्तं सर्व एवोत्क्रमन्ते तस्मिञ्च प्रतिष्ठमाने सर्व एव प्रतिष्ठन्ते एवं वाङ्मनष्चक्षुः श्रोत्रं च ते प्रीताः प्राणं स्तुन्वन्ति ॥४॥

IAST Transliteration

so'bhimānādūrdhvamutkrāmata iva tasminnutkrāmatyathetare sarva evotkrāmante tasmiñca pratiṣṭhamāne sarva eva pratiṣṭhante | tadyathā makṣikā madhukararājānamutkrāmantaṃ sarva evotkramante tasmiñca pratiṣṭhamāne sarva eva pratiṣṭhante evaṃ vāṅmanaścakṣuḥ śrotraṃ ca te prītāḥ prāṇaṃ stunvanti ||4||

Translation

प्राण ने दिखाया कि मैं ही सब कुछ हूँ। वो ऊपर उठने लगा, तो बाकी सब भी साथ में उठ गए। जब वो रुका, सब रुक गए। जैसे मधुमक्खियों का राजा उड़ता है तो सारी मधुमक्खियाँ साथ में उड़ जाती हैं, वो बैठता है तो सब बैठ जाती हैं। वैसे ही बोलना, सोचना, देखना, सुनना, यह सब प्राण की तारीफ करने लगे।

Academic Translation

He, out of self-importance, appeared to rise upward. As he rises, all the others indeed rise; and when he remains established, all the others remain established. Just as bees, when the king-bee rises, all rise up, and when he settles, all settle—so speech, mind, eye, and ear, being pleased, praise Prana.

Verse Context

• Dependence of all sense organs on Prana; the hierarchical supremacy of the vital force demonstrated through departure and return; the recognition and praise of Prana by the faculties
• Mahavakya: This mantra indirectly supports the Mahavakya 'Ayam Atma Brahma' (This Self is Brahman) by demonstrating that the vital force (Prana) which animates and sustains all faculties is the essential self of the embodied being. The organs' praise of Prana mirrors the Upanishadic recognition that the Atman is the inner controller upon which all depends.
