Paingala Upanishad: Verse 1.8
स पञ्चभूतानां रजोंशांश्चतुर्धा कृत्वा भागत्रयात्पञ्चवृत्त्यात्मकं प्राणमसृजत्। स तेषां तुर्यभागेन कर्मेन्द्रियाण्यसृजत्॥८॥
सः । पञ्च-भूतानाम् । रजः-अंशान् । चतुर्धा । कृत्वा । भाग-त्रयात् । पञ्च-वृत्ति-आत्मकम् । प्राणम् । असृजत् । सः । तेषाम् । तुर्य-भागेन । कर्म-इन्द्रियाणि । असृजत् ॥८॥
sa pañcabhūtānāṃ rajo’ṃśāṃś caturdhā kṛtvā bhāgatrayāt pañcavṛttyātmakaṃ prāṇam asṛjat | sa teṣāṃ turyabhāgena karmendriyāṇy asṛjat ||8||
पाँच एलिमेंट्स के रजस भाग को लेकर उन्होंने चार हिस्सों में बाँटा। उसमें से तीन भाग से प्राण बना, जो पाँच काम करता है। चौथा भाग से कर्मेंद्रिय बने, जो एक्शन के लिए हैं।
He, having made the rajas-portions of the five elements into four parts, created from three parts prāṇa, consisting of five functions (vṛttis). From their fourth part he created the organs of action (karmendriyas).
- रजो’ंशांश् = रजः + अंशान् (विसर्गः → ओऽ before vowel; final -न् of अंशान् with following च- gives nasal assimilation in recitation)
- कर्मेन्द्रियाण्यसृजत् = कर्मेन्द्रियाणि + असृजत् (इ + अ → या)
