When the stage of studentship is completed, being devoted to service to the teacher, and having studied the Vedas, one who has been granted permission is declared by the teacher to be an āśramī (fit to enter the next stage). Having brought a wife, and having established the appropriate sacred fire according to one’s capacity, he should perform the Brāhmī iṣṭi (a Vedic offering); of those offerings he should make the oblation within a day and a night.
