He attains dispassion day by day with respect to the latent tendencies within. He proceeds among actions that are pure and well-ordered, and rejoices daily. In worldly and inert activities he remains continually discerning; he does not utter words that strike at vital points; he practices meritorious deeds. He performs gentle actions that do not cause agitation to others; he continually fears wrongdoing and does not seek enjoyment. He speaks words containing affection and goodwill—pleasant, appropriate, and suited to place and time.

Vairāgya (dispassion) and sādhana-catuṣṭaya as preparation for jñāna/mokṣaMahavakya: Indirect—describes ethical-psychological purification (śama-dama, ahiṃsā, satya) that prepares the mind for mahāvākya-jñāna (e.g., ‘tat tvam asi’).AtharvaChandas: Anuṣṭubh/śloka (post-Vedic metrical style; not a Vedic mantra meter)
