Soma Pavamāna (the purifying Soma)
This short Pavamāna hymn praises Soma as he is purified through the waters and fleece, where awakened thoughts and inspired insights contend and become ordered into a stable “fold” of increase. Soma is celebrated as the kavi who carries poetic power through all worlds, granting glory among the gods and practical abundance to the capable worshipper. The hymn culminates in a direct request for nourishment, wide light, divine delight, and the repulsion of hostile forces.

Mantra 1
अधि यदस्मिन्वाजिनीव शुभः स्पर्धन्ते धियः सूर्ये न विशः । अपो वृणानः पवते कवीयन्व्रजं न पशुवर्धनाय मन्म ॥
जब इस सोम में सोचने की ताकतें भाग-दौड़ करती हैं, जैसे रेस में घोड़े दौड़े। लोग सूरज की तरफ भागे, वैसे ही यहाँ भी। यह पानी चुनता है, साफ होता है, और रिशि जैसा बन जाता है। इससे अंदर की शक्तियाँ बढ़ती हैं, दिमाग सही काम करता है।

द्विता व्यूर्ण्वन्नमृतस्य धाम स्वर्विदे भुवनानि प्रथन्त । धियः पिन्वानाः स्वसरे न गाव ऋतायन्तीरभि वावश्र इन्दुम् ॥
यह दो तरह से अमरत्व का घर दिखाता है, एक तो यहाँ, एक ऊपर। आसमान ढूँढने वाले के लिए दुनिया खुल जाती है। सोचें जैसे गायें चारे में खुश होके बोलते हैं, वैसे ही यह सोचें सही रास्ते पे चलके उस चमकते बूंद के पास भागती हैं।

परि यत्कविः काव्या भरते शूरो न रथो भुवनानि विश्वा । देवेषु यशो मर्ताय भूषन्दक्षाय रायः पुरुभूषु नव्यः ॥
जब कोई रिशि अपनी कव्या की शक्ति फैलाता है, वो एक बहादुर योद्धा की तरह है जिसका रथ सारी दुनिया में घूमता है। वो देवताओं के बीच में लोगों के लिए बड़ाई पैदा करता है। जो इंसान सही काम करने की ताकत रखता है, उसके लिए नई-नई संपत्ति आती है।

श्रिये जातः श्रिय आ निरियाय श्रियं वयो जरितृभ्यो दधाति । श्रियं वसाना अमृतत्वमायन्भवन्ति सत्या समिथा मितद्रौ ॥
यह शक्ति चमक के लिए पैदा हुई है और चमक की तरफ बढ़ती है। गानेवाले लोगों को वो उड़ान देती है जैसे पक्षी उड़ता है। चमक को पहन के यह लोग अमर हो जाते हैं। वो सच्चे हो जाते हैं और साथ में जलते रहते हैं।

इषमूर्जमभ्यर्षाश्वं गामुरु ज्योतिः कृणुहि मत्सि देवान् । विश्वानि हि सुषहा तानि तुभ्यं पवमान बाधसे सोम शत्रून् ॥
हमारे पास आओ और खाना-शक्ति लाओ। घोड़ा और गाय भी लाओ। चमक फैलाओ और देवताओं को खुश करो। तुम सब कुछ सहन कर सकते हो इसलिए दुश्मन लोगों को पीछे धकेलो।
