Outer meaning

O Indu, lay low the force of those people—O much-invoked one—who would point at us to harm and command against us.

Inner meaning

Indu (purified delight-consciousness) is asked to press down the hostile ‘force’ (śuṣma) of formations that seek to define, judge, or ‘point at’ (ādideśati) the seeker—i.e., to fix the soul in limiting suggestions, accusations, or commands from the lower nature or collective mind. ‘Puruhūta’ indicates the power that is repeatedly called because it reliably answers: Soma as the invoked protector of the inner work, silencing hostile directives and weakening the aggressive pranic pressure behind them.

Universal truth

When one abides in purified joy and clarity, hostile suggestions and coercive influences lose their power; the inner being is freed from fear-based social or psychological domination.

Themes

Protection, Battle of Light and Darkness, Soma-ritual
