Outer meaning

For you are steadfast, seated in the home, like an inspired watcher ever awake; O Agni, you shine in the heaven.

Inner meaning

Agni is dhīra—firm, self-possessed—because the true Will does not waver with moods. He is adma-sat, ‘seated in the home’: the inner fire established in the heart-house (or in the embodied being). Like a vipra who is always awake (jāgṛviḥ sadā), Agni is the vigilant consciousness that does not sleep into ignorance; he keeps watch over the thresholds of thought and desire. ‘You blaze in dyavi’—in the heaven—psychologically, in the higher mind (dyu), the luminous plane where truth-ideas shine. Thus Agni bridges heart and heaven: from the seated flame to the illumined mind.

Universal truth

An awakened, steadfast inner consciousness can remain vigilant within daily life and open the mind to higher light.
