Sukta 8.24
एन्दुमिन्द्राय सिञ्चत पिबाति सोम्यं मधु । प्र राधसा चोदयाते महित्वना ॥
ā́ índum índrāya siñcata píbāti somyáṃ mádhu | prá rā́dhasā codayāte mahitvánā ||
Pour the Indu (Soma drop) for Indra; he drinks the honeyed Soma. By that wealth/boon he is impelled forward by greatness.
Offer the distilled delight of consciousness (Indu/Soma) to the illumined Mind (Indra). When the mind drinks that honeyed Ananda, it is propelled into victorious progress: the inner powers (faculties of thought, will, life) are set in right motion by a greater largeness (mahitva).
When consciousness is nourished by purified delight, the higher intelligence naturally advances; true strength is not forced, but awakened by inner plenitude and wideness.
Soma-ritual, Indra-empowerment, bliss-and-impulsion, inner-activation
Book 8 is predominantly Kāṇva-associated; this hymn’s attribution is uncertain in the supplied data.
The seer-voice here functions as an inner Adhvaryu: one who knows how to ‘pour’ delight into the illumined mind so that consciousness is driven forward by largeness rather than struggle.
Releases the hidden Light and Waters by breaking the coverings; establishes luminous order in the human and cosmic field.
Discriminating and forceful illumination—clarity that turns bliss into victorious action and right movement of the faculties.
Soma pressing and offering to Indra (Indra-Soma context)
एन्दु॒मिन्द्रा॑य सिञ्चत॒ पिबा॑ति सो॒म्यं मधु॑ । प्र राध॑सा चोदयाते महित्व॒ना ॥
आ । इन्दु॑म् । इन्द्रा॑य । सि॒ञ्च॒त॒ । पिबा॑ति । सो॒म्यम् । मधु॑ । प्र । राध॑सा । चो॒द॒या॒ते॒ । म॒हि॒ऽत्व॒ना ॥
ā | indum | indrāya | siñcata | pibāti | somyam | madhu | pra | rādhasā | codayāte | mahi-tvanā
Forward-driving, imperative-led cadence (siñcata / codayate) suggesting propulsion.
Energizes aspiration and ‘inner offering’; supports a felt sense of uplift and victorious momentum.
Direct soma-pressing instruction: pouring Soma for Indra during the Soma sacrifice (e.g., pressing/oblation sequence where Indra is invited to drink).
During Soma-yajña sequences where Indra is invited to drink Soma (e.g., Indra-pāna portions)
Pouring (siñc-) and offering Soma; recitation to invoke Indra’s strengthening
Use as a meditation-mantra before focused work: ‘offer’ a moment of sweetness/gratitude to the mind, then begin action from wideness rather than stress.
siñcata: √sic 'to pour' (2nd pl. imp.). indu: 'drop/bright one' used for Soma; linked to brightness and distillation of delight. somya: 'belonging to Soma' (adj.). madhu: sweetness/honey; in Vedic often blissful sap. codayāte: denominative/causative from √cud 'to impel, urge'; indicates activation. mahitvanā: instr. of mahitvan- 'greatness' from mah- 'great'.
Ananda (madhu as bliss-sap), Rita as effective energizing order (codayāte through rādhas)
‘Codayate’ implies right impulsion—movement aligned with Ṛta rather than rajasic compulsion.
Plenitude (rādhas) is effective when grounded in truth-clarity (Indra).
Progress by infusion of delight into mind—bliss as creative fuel for order and victory.
Proto-Vedāntic/Integral (Aurobindonian) reading: Ananda empowers Vijnana-like illumination and right dynamism.
Soma-honey = sweetness of concentrated awareness; ‘pouring’ = intentional inward offering that increases luminous force.
Offer inner sweetness (gratitude/joy) into the mind, then watch clarity become forceful and forward-moving.
Ājñā (illumined mind) supported by Anāhata (sweetness/Ananda)
Gentle inhale ‘pouring in’ (siñcata), soft pause ‘tasting’ (pibāti), steady exhale ‘forward’ (pra) for 9 cycles.
Uplifted, clarified, energized equanimity—joy-powered concentration.
Begin with a brief recollection of delight; mentally ‘offer’ it to the higher mind; then take one decisive action from that widened state.
Use Vedic three-tone: udatta (raised), anudatta (lower), svarita (falling); exact svara per syllable requires Śākala accent notation beyond supplied text.
Lean emphasis on imperative/verbs: siñcata, pibāti, codayāte; keep ‘indrāya’ clear and steady.
enduṃ: keep nasal anusvāra light before vowel/consonant, indrāya: long ā sustained, siñcata: palatal ñ as in ‘canyon’, somyaṃ: ‘my’ conjunct clean, final anusvāra softened, rādhasā: long ā; dh aspirated, mahitvanā: hitva cluster articulated, long ā at end
Bright, confident, upward-leading tone; avoid heaviness—let sweetness be audible.
