Sukta 8.11
त्वमसि प्रशस्यो विदथेषु सहन्त्य । अग्ने रथीरध्वराणाम् ॥
tvám asi praśásyo vidáthēṣu sahantya | ágne rathī́r adhvarā́ṇām ||
अग्नि, लोग सबके सामने तुम्हारी तारीफ करते हैं। तुम बहुत ताकतवाले हो। यज्ञ के काम में तुम रथ चलाने वाले हो, सबको सही रास्ते पे ले जाते हो।
Agni is praised as worthy of acclaim in assemblies (vidathas), strong-enduring, and the charioteer of the sacrificial journeys (adhvara).
The inner Fire is the power that can be openly affirmed in the gatherings of our faculties (mind-life-body) and among seekers. As ‘rathī’ (charioteer), Agni drives the movement of the sacrifice—he harnesses energies, steers the will, and carries the offering through obstacles. ‘Sahantya’ indicates endurance: the flame persists through resistance and fatigue, ensuring continuity of sādhanā.
True progress needs a guiding will that can steer life’s journey with endurance; spiritual practice succeeds when the inner leader holds the reins of our energies and keeps the course.
Guidance, Ritual journey, Overcoming resistance, Agni as leader
The speaker presents Agni as the ‘driver’ of the adhvara—suggesting a yogic psychology where the sacrifice is a journey of transformation requiring guidance, endurance, and right direction.
Leader of the sacrificial movement; protector and organizer of the rite; power that carries offerings to the gods.
Steering intelligence in the will—capacity to direct prāṇa and action toward the divine aim.
Stotra/invocation within Agni-focused portions of rites; also suitable for pravara/vidatha gatherings

Use before starting a difficult project or disciplined practice: recite to place the ‘reins’ in the hands of the inner will rather than impulse.
: pra- + √ 'to proclaim, praise' → 'to be praised'. : often from √ 'to know' with assembly sense 'occasion of knowledge/ritual session'. : voc. of sahant- from √ 'to prevail, endure'. : traditionally 'sacrifice' possibly from a-dhvara 'unbroken, non-injurious' (folk/ritual etymology) or linked to √/; used as technical term for rite. : 'one of the chariot' from ratha-.
Ṛta as straight-going action (adhvara), sahana (endurance) against inertia and obstruction
Adhvara as ‘undeviating’ aligns with ṛta; Agni as charioteer keeps the course true.
Public acclaim (praśasya) symbolizes the soul’s recognition of the true guide.
Fire as dynamic organizer of movement—turning raw force into directed evolution.
Integral-yogic psychology (will guiding prāṇa and mind toward transformation)
A steady inner heat that mobilizes life-force and keeps it aligned to the chosen path.
Hand over the reins: feel Agni in the navel region steering breath, attention, and action toward the Divine.
Manipura
4-4 breathing (inhale 4, exhale 4) while visualizing a flame at the navel guiding a forward-moving chariot of light
Dynamic concentration; disciplined momentum
When scattered, recite once slowly, then begin work with one clear intention; return to the verse whenever deviation (adhvara-bhraṁśa) is felt.
Notated svara unavailable; maintain Rigvedic tonal contour with clear udatta lifts on key words (agne, rathīḥ).
Stress word-clarity: tvám asi | praśásyo | vidáth(e)ṣu | sahántya | ágne | rathī́ḥ | adhvarā́ṇām (approximate).
‘praśasya’ = pra-śas-ya (palatal ś)., ‘vidatheṣu’ keep ‘dh’ voiced aspirate: vi-da-the-ṣu., ‘rathīḥ’ long ī; visarga lightly breathed., ‘adhvarāṇām’ pronounce ‘dhv’ cluster cleanly: adh-va-rā-ṇām.
Bright, driving, steady-breath supported.
