Agni
Triṣṭubh
In this short Triṣṭubh hymn, Vasiṣṭha kindles and praises Agni as the powerful divine steed and the knowing messenger who carries the sacrifice to the gods. Agni is established in the human dwelling as viśpati (lord of the clans), sweet-speaking and faithful to Ṛta, and is asked to grant nourishment, impulse, and enduring well-being to the singers and patrons.

Mantra 1
प्र वो देवं चित्सहसानमग्निमश्वं न वाजिनं हिषे नमोभिः । भवा नो दूतो अध्वरस्य विद्वान्त्मना देवेषु विविदे मितद्रुः ॥
मैं अग्नि भगवान को बुला रहा हूँ। वो बहुत ताकतवाला है, जैसे तेज़ घोड़ा। मैं उनको झुक के नमस्कार करता हूँ। अग्नि, हमारे लिए पैगम बनो। यज्ञ का काम तुम जानते हो। तुम भगवानों के पास अपनी जगह बना लेते हो।

आ याह्यग्ने पथ्या अनु स्वा मन्द्रो देवानां सख्यं जुषाणः । आ सानु शुष्मैर्नदयन्पृथिव्या जम्भेभिर्विश्वमुशधग्वनानि ॥
अग्नि, तुम अपना रास्ता पकड़ो और आओ। भगवानों के साथ तुम्हारा दोस्ती का रिश्ता है। तुम पहाड़ों से गुज़रते हो और तुम्हारी आवाज़ गूँजती है। तुम जंगल की सारी घास को आग से जला डालते हो और रास्ता साफ़ कर देते हो।

प्राचीनो यज्ञः सुधितं हि बर्हिः प्रीणीते अग्निरीळितो न होता । आ मातरा विश्ववारे हुवानो यतो यविष्ठ जज्ञिषे सुशेवः ॥
यज्ञ पूरब की तरफ मोड़ दिया गया है। कुशा घास सही तरह बिछा दी है। अग्नि को बुलाया गया है और वो खुश हो रहे हैं जैसे पंडित। दो माओं को पुकारा जा रहा है जो सब देनेवाली हैं। अग्नि, तुम पैदा हुए हो और तुम्हारा आना अच्छा लगा।

सद्यो अध्वरे रथिरं जनन्त मानुषासो विचेतसो य एषाम् । विशामधायि विश्पतिर्दुरोणेऽग्निर्मन्द्रो मधुवचा ऋतावा ॥
यज्ञ में लोगों ने जल्दी एक रथ बना दिया। यह समझदार लोग थे। अग्नि को घर में बिठाया गया। वो सब लोगों का मालिक है। वो खुश रहते हैं, उनकी बातें मीठी हैं, और वो धरम के कानून को संभालते हैं।

असादि वृतो वह्निराजगन्वानग्निर्ब्रह्मा नृषदने विधर्ता । द्यौश्च यं पृथिवी वावृधाते आ यं होता यजति विश्ववारम् ॥
अग्नि को चुना गया और वो बैठ गए। वो आग के रूप में आए। वो लोगों के बीच बैठे हैं और सब संभालते हैं। धरती और आसमान दोनों उनको बढ़ा रहे हैं। पंडित उनको सब कुछ देने वाले भगवान के रूप में पूज रहे हैं।

एते द्युम्नेभिर्विश्वमातिरन्त मन्त्रं ये वारं नर्या अतक्षन् । प्र ये विशस्तिरन्त श्रोषमाणा आ ये मे अस्य दीधयन्नृतस्य ॥
यह लोग अपनी चमक और ताकत से पूरी दुनिया को पार कर लेते हैं। इन्होंने वो शब्द बनाया जो सबको अच्छा लगता है और में ताकत रखता है। यह लोग सुन-सुन के लोगों को आगे ले जाते हैं। इन्होंने मुझमें सच्चाई का नज़ारा जगा दिया है।

नू त्वामग्न ईमहे वसिष्ठा ईशानं सूनो सहसो वसूनाम् । इषं स्तोतृभ्यो मघवद्भ्य आनड्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
अब हम तुम्हे बुला रहे हैं, अग्नि। हम वशिष्ठ हैं और तुमसे माँग रहे हैं। तुम तो बड़े हो, ताकत के बेटा, और सब दौलत के मालिक। अपने भक्तों को जो गाते हैं उनको शक्ति दो और खाना दो। हमेशा हमारा ख्याल रखना और हमें ठीक रखो।
