Sukta 7.62
Vasiṣṭha
Sūrya (with implicit relation to Ādityas’ order)
Triṣṭubh (probable)
This six-verse hymn of Vasiṣṭha praises Sūrya’s daily rising as the visible sign of ṛta (cosmic order), who surveys all human “births” and activities with impartial light. It then widens into an Āditya-oriented prayer to Aditi, Heaven-and-Earth, and the moral governors Mitra–Varuṇa–Aryaman for protection from offense, spacious freedom (varivas), and safe, auspicious paths for self and offspring.
Mantra 1
Mantra 2
Mantra 3
Mantra 4
Mantra 5
Mantra 6
It links the Sun’s daily rising with cosmic order (ṛta) and asks the Ādityas to protect the worshipper from wrongdoing, granting well-being and “good paths” in life.
Because Sūrya’s light is the visible sign of order, and the Ādityas (especially Mitra–Varuṇa–Aryaman) govern truth, covenant, and social-moral harmony; the hymn seeks their guardianship and freedom (varivas).
It is suited for sunrise recitation, especially before duties or travel, as a prayer for clarity, ethical steadiness, protection from error, and safe, auspicious movement on life’s paths.
