अहमस्मि सपत्नहेन्द्र इवारिष्टो अक्षतः । अधः सपत्ना मे पदोरिमे सर्वे अभिष्ठिताः ॥
ahám asmi sapatnahé́ndra ivā́riṣṭo ákṣataḥ | adháḥ sapátnā me padór imé sárve abhíṣṭhitāḥ ||
I am the slayer of rivals, like Indra—unharmed, unbroken. Beneath my two feet all these rivals are trodden down and held fast.
A declaration of identification with the Indra-force: the illumined mind that breaks obstruction. ‘Unharmed, unbroken’ indicates inner integrity—no leakage of energy to hostile suggestions. The ‘two feet’ are the stable bases of consciousness (e.g., knowledge and power; or calm and force) upon which rival impulses are pressed down—kept below the threshold so they cannot rise into action or speech.
Freedom comes when the higher mind stands intact and refuses to give equal status to lower impulses; what is put beneath the feet no longer rules the life.
Self-affirmation, Rival-slaying, Indra archetype, Mastery over obstruction
Charm-like self-assertions used for victory; readily inwardized as yogic mastery over lower nature.
A compact formula of identification with the divine archetype (Indra) to establish fearlessness and inner dominion.
Breaker of the coverer, bringer of light and victorious force; establishes wide space for consciousness.
Illuminative strength that refuses subjection to lower impulses; power to keep resistance below the threshold.
Victory charm; subduing rivals; protective self-installation.

32
4 × ~8; strong closure in the second half with ‘under my feet’.
Declarative, stamping rhythm—suitable for affirmation.
Instills grounded confidence; helps the practitioner feel ‘unbroken’ and stable, reducing inner wavering.
Self-empowerment formula for contests, debates, and rivalries; inwardly, affirmation for mastery over obstructive impulses.
Before contests, negotiations, or when facing opposition; also as inner resolve in difficult phases of practice.
Recite while standing firmly; feel both feet rooted; visualize rivals/negative impulses beneath and powerless.
A grounding mantra for anxiety and self-doubt: reclaim the ‘feet’ (stability) and reassert intactness (akṣata).
sapatna-hā is a karmadhāraya/tatpuruṣa compound ‘slayer of rivals’. ariṣṭa ‘unharmed’ (a- + √riṣ ‘to injure’). akṣata ‘unbroken’ (a- + kṣata ‘wounded’, from √kṣan/√kṣad ‘to wound’ in later usage; Vedic akṣata = intact). The imagery ‘under my feet’ is a dominance formula: psychologically, lower impulses are subordinated to a higher, Indraic will.
Indra as victorious consciousness-force, Integrity of being (ariṣṭa, akṣata) as spiritual wholeness, Subjugation of lower forces (rivals) under the feet
Mastery is establishment of right order: lower impulses take their place below, not on the throne.
Truth of identity: the soul can stand in the Indra-nature—luminous, unconquered.
Victory creates ‘space’ for the descent of light; subduing rivals is clearing the field.
Integral yoga reading: identification with divine power as practical psychology.
Feet = grounding in the body and stability of consciousness; rivals = turbulent movements; Indra = illumined mind-power.
Practice ‘Indra-stance’: feel a bright, calm force in the forehead/heart; keep awareness rooted in the soles; let negative impulses remain ‘below’.
muladhara
4-count inhale, 6-count exhale; on exhale recite/mentally repeat akṣataḥ to seal integrity.
Grounded luminous strength; non-reactive dominance over lower movements.
When a rival impulse arises (anger, craving, doubt), do not argue; shift to the feet, feel stability, affirm ‘ariṣṭo akṣataḥ’, and let the movement lose its footing.
Chant evenly in anuṣṭubh; emphasize ‘aham asmi’ and ‘indra iva’; drop gently on ‘abhiṣṭhitāḥ’.
Keep sandhi clear: indraḥ-iva (not merged into one blur); padōr ime with distinct vowels.
aham: soft h, short a, sapatnahā: long ā at end, ariṣṭo: retroflex ṣṭ, akṣataḥ: kṣ cluster clean; final ḥ, abhiṣṭhitāḥ: bh + i; retroflex ṣṭh; long āḥ ending
Grounded, resonant, steady; avoid haste.
