Rama (as ‘Prabhu’)
Vatsalya (maternal devotion) shading into Shanta (recollected reverence)
In Bala-kanda, amid the early domestic-līlā, Kaushalya repeatedly petitions that the Lord’s deluding power not again eclipse her recognition—an inward turn from mere motherliness to conscious devotion.
Ethic of humility and vigilance: even the most intimate relationship must be governed by maryādā (decorum) and self-scrutiny, so that affection does not become entitlement or blindness. This models a polity where power and intimacy are disciplined by dharma and remembrance of higher order.
The verse presumes the Saguna Lord (‘Prabhu’) who can be addressed and petitioned, while also acknowledging māyā as a cosmic principle associated with Brahman’s inscrutable power—thus binding the personal encounter to a metaphysical account of delusion and remembrance.
Traditional Manas exegesis reads Kaushalya’s prayer as the mother’s sudden self-awareness that her ‘maternal possessiveness’ can itself become a veil. Having tasted the Lord’s revelation, she begs that the same divine power which stages the līlā should not again bind her into ordinary delusion. The emphasis is not fear of the world, but fear of forgetfulness: the loss of constant recognition that the child before her is the Supreme, voluntarily assuming human tenderness.
Doha: 13/11 mātrā pattern (standard doha cadence; two pādas with internal caesura)
Anuprāsa (soft repetition in ‘bāra bāra’); Virodha/Paradox (mother addressing son as ‘Prabhu’); Arthāntaranyāsa (shift from outward gesture ‘folded hands’ to inner metaphysical concern ‘māyā’)
Vishishtadvaita-leaning theism: māyā is real as the Lord’s power, yet bondage is experiential; liberation is sustained God-consciousness through grace and devotion.
Bilawal (common, serene framework for supplicatory Manas-path; regional traditions may vary)
