In Bala Kanda, the narration briefly notes that Rama, to accomplish the devas’ purpose, forestalls a vow through stratagem; upon learning the true intent, the concerned party reacts in anger and issues a curse—an incident that functions as a causal hinge for later events.
Statecraft may employ measured stratagem (nīti) to prevent public harm and uphold dharma, but such action must be anchored in lokamaṅgala (universal welfare), not private advantage. The ethical warning is against reactive anger and punitive speech (śrāpa) divorced from full understanding.
The verse portrays the manifest Lord acting within history (saguna) with purposeful governance; yet the ‘maram’ (inner rationale) hints at an unseen, supra-personal order that the Lord alone fully comprehends—suggesting that the nirguna ground is not negated but expressed through saguna providence.
Traditional Manas expositors read this as a compact statement of Rama’s maryādā: He does not casually break vows, yet He may neutralize an adharmic or obstructive resolve through policy (chala) to protect the cosmic order (sura-kārya). The second line highlights the limited vision of ascetic power when unillumined by humility: once the hidden purpose is grasped, the reaction still arises as wrath, leading to a curse—thereby setting up subsequent narrative consequences while preserving Rama’s sovereign innocence and larger dharmic intent.
Doha (13/11 mātrā pattern; first line ~13+11, second line ~13+11, with caesura typical of doha delivery)
Anuprāsa (repetition of hard dentals in ‘करि… Arthāntaranyāsa (a general maxim-like compression of narrative causality); Vakrokti via ‘छल’ (suggesting layered intent rather than plain action)
Vishishtadvaita (with a bhakti-centered ‘middle way’ that admits jnana as subordinate illumination rather than the final means)
Raga Bilawal (common, bright framework for doha recitation; regional practice varies)
