Valiant brother of Lakshmana wondered seeing the city filled with great palaces, distinct like Lord Indra's city.
Even when confronted by overwhelming opulence and power, the dhārmic agent observes clearly before acting—wonder does not become distraction.
Cultivates smṛti and steadiness: perceive beauty/power without losing dhārmic aim.
The dazzling city as viṣaya-śobhā (sense-object splendor) that can veil discernment; the hero’s wonder remains non-enslaving, hinting at vairāgya-in-action.
Īśā-style reminder that glittering possessions are not ultimate; perception without attachment (seeing splendor yet moving toward dharma).
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 5.2–5.3 (Hanumān’s first wonder at Laṅkā’s splendor); Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 6.40 (continued description of Laṅkā as the army advances)
Vedic/Itihāsa motif of comparing royal cities to Amarāvatī
Sundarakāṇḍa Laṅkā-varṇana passages where opulence is repeatedly likened to divine realms
