Rama promised those ascetics, who resembled flaming fire in lustre living in Dandakaranya inhabited by rakshasas to slay them.
This verse embodies the Kshatriya Dharma of protection. Rama, though in exile, accepts the sacred duty to protect the ascetics from rakshasas, demonstrating that Dharma demands defending the righteous and opposing evil regardless of personal circumstances.
Rama, residing in Dandaka forest, is approached by ascetics tormented by rakshasas. The sages, radiant like fire through their austerities, appeal to Rama for protection. Rama listens to their plight and solemnly promises to destroy the rakshasas.
The virtue of Pratijna (sacred vow) is emphasized. Rama's commitment to protect the sages demonstrates his sense of duty and his willingness to take on the role of protector even while in exile, showcasing his unwavering dedication to righteousness.
