FAQs

The verse illustrates the Dharma of propitiation (tarpana) and gratitude. Even in forest exile, Rama ensures proper worship of celestial beings using available forest resources, demonstrating that gratitude to divine and cosmic forces is an eternal obligation. The inclusion of Sita in the ritual shows the Dharma of family unity in spiritual practice.

After completing the establishment of their hermitage at Chitrakoot, Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita perform the propitiation ritual (tarpana) to honor celestial beings and guardian deities of the forest. They then ceremonially enter their newly constructed hut, marking the formal beginning of their forest dwelling.

The verse emphasizes the virtue of adaptability and resourcefulness in Dharma. Despite lacking royal resources, Rama uses forest materials, wild flowers, fruits, roots, and game, to fulfill ritual obligations perfectly. This demonstrates that true devotion lies not in material grandeur but in sincere adherence to prescribed duty.
