The cowshed: with the cowshed we settle you well—together with wealth, together with well-being. By the name, whatever it be, of the day-born, thereby do we unite you.
Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (specific r̥ṣi not supplied in excerpt)
Devata: Goṣṭha / Rayi (functional deities: cowshed/wealth), with implicit cattle-prosperity powers
Chandas: Anuṣṭubh (probable)
Primary: shanta

Sāyaṇa treats goṣṭha as a consecrated domestic ‘seat’ of rayi; suṣadā is ‘firmly seated, not straying.’ ‘Day-born’ is glossed as the newly born calf/offspring (or newly arisen prosperity) whose naming is auspicious; the ‘name’ functions as a binding formula—by naming, the herd’s cohesion and increase are ritually secured.
To consolidate the herd in the cowshed with wealth and welfare; to ensure successful bonding around a newborn calf and prevent scattering.
Stable shelter and routine improve livestock health and household nutrition; naming/bonding supports caregiver attention and consistency.
paustika
Herd and household cohesion; the stall as prosperity-center.
Settle and unite cattle/household in the cowshed with wealth and well-being; bind prosperity to the newborn (calf/offspring) through naming.
Sthāpanā (installation) through place-power (goṣṭha) + saṃ-bandhana (binding) through nāma.
Scattering, loss of cattle, instability after birth, misfortune at the threshold.
Cattle, milk, offspring, household welfare.
‘The cowshed’: With the cowshed we settle you well—together with wealth and well-being. By the name of the day-born (newborn), whatever it is, by that we unite you.
Place (goṣṭha) is made into a binding force. Naming (nāma) functions as social-magic: it stabilizes identity and belonging, uniting herd and household around new life.
Prosperity depends on stable containers—spaces, names, routines—that gather life rather than letting it scatter. What is rightly ‘named’ and ‘housed’ becomes coherent and enduring.
‘Seat’ prosperity by seating attention: create an inner goṣṭha (stable home-space) and bind it with a chosen name/mantra.
mūlādhāra
Box breathing (4-4-4-4) while repeating saṃ… saṃ… to internalize cohesion.
Contained, stable, non-scattered.
Choose one stabilizing routine (sleep/food/work) and ‘name’ it; repeat the mantra while committing to that routine for 14 days—turning nāma into behavioral binding.
Treat ‘goṣṭhaḥ’ as a rubric/seed-word, then chant the anuṣṭubh evenly with emphasis on repeated saṃ.
Sustain saṃ vo goṣṭhena suṣadā as one settling phrase; give weight to rayyā and subhūtyā.
goṣṭhena: keep ṣṭh cluster clear (retroflex ṣ + ṭh)., suṣadā: pronounce both ṣ distinctly., aharjātasya: keep h audible; do not collapse to ‘arjā-’.
Grounded, resonant, ‘settling’ voice; suitable for threshold spaces.
Often paired with physical ‘seating’ acts—leading cattle into place, tying calmly, and speaking the newborn’s name to seal unity.
27
Starting a new home/stall, after relocation, after birth in herd/family, when household feels scattered.
At dusk when animals are brought in; at first housing of a newborn calf; during shelter blessing or routine establishment.
Greater sense of stability, cohesion, and welfare; symbolic protection of cattle-wealth and household well-being.
Ensure ethical animal care; do not treat mantra as substitute for shelter quality, veterinary care, or proper feeding.
(3) तेना वः → तेन वः (स्वर/पदविभाग; no obligatory internal sandhi beyond padapāṭha separation).
