दीर्घायुत्वम्। अग्ने॑ स॒मिध॒माहा॑र्षं बृह॒ते जा॒तवे॑दसे । स मे॑ श्र॒द्धां च॑ मे॒धां च॑ जा॒तवे॑दाः॒ प्र य॑च्छतु
यह मंत्र लंबी उमर के लिए है। मैं अग्नि के लिए लकड़ी लाया हूँ। जातवेदस, जो बड़ा ज्ञानी है, उन्हें समर्पित करता हूँ। भगवान मुझे पूरा विश्वास और समझ दे।

इ॒ध्मेन॑ त्वा जातवेदः स॒मिधा॑ वर्धयामसि । तथा॒ त्वम॒स्मान् व॑र्धय प्र॒जया॑ च॒ धने॑न च
हे अग्नि, हम तुम्हे लकड़ी से स्ट्रॉन्ग बना रहे हैं। जला के बड़ा कर रहे हैं। तुम भी हमें ऐसे ही स्ट्रॉन्ग बनाओ। हमारे बच्चे और पैसा दोनों बढ़ाओ।

यद॑ग्ने॒ यानि॒ कानि॑ चि॒दा ते॒ दारू॑णि द॒ध्मसि॑ । सर्वं॒ तद॑स्तु मे शि॒वं तज्जु॑षस्व यविष्ठ्य
अग्नि, हम तुम्हारे लिए जो भी लकड़ी डाल रहे हैं, वो सब ठीक होना चाहिए। तुम उसे अक्सेप्ट करो। तुम यंग हो, भला मानो।

ए॒तास्ते॑ अग्ने स॒मिध॒स्त्वमि॒द्धः स॒मिद् भव । आयु॑र॒स्मासु॑ धेह्यमृत॒त्वमा॑चा॒र्याय
अग्नि, यह सब तुम्हारे लिए है। तुम जल रहे हो, हमारे लिए स्ट्रॉन्ग बनो। हम में लाइफ डाल दो। गुरु को अमर बना दो।

It is recited to obtain long life (āyus) along with medhā (clear intelligence) and śraddhā (steady faith), by kindling Agni with samidh and asking him to make the rite auspicious.
Because it aims to remove defects in the offering: even if the fuel differs in type or quality, the mantra asks Agni to accept it and make the result śiva—benign and welfare-giving.
In this context it means enduring vitality and unimpaired standing for the teacher—an āyuṣya blessing that protects the teaching line and the household’s guiding authority.
