Mantras

Mantra 1

आदित्यासो अदितयः स्याम पूर्देवत्रा वसवो मर्त्यत्रा । सनेम मित्रावरुणा सनन्तो भवेम द्यावापृथिवी भवन्तः ॥

Hum bhi Aditya ban jaayein, Aditi ke bete jaise. Devtaon ki duniya mein bhi strong ho, insaan ki duniya mein bhi. Mitra aur Varuna, hum jeet ke rahen, baar-baar jeet ke. Hum aasman aur dharti jaise sthir ho jaayein, kaam ke liye pakka foundation.

Mantra 2

Angira rishi jo tezi se chalte hain, woh Savita devta ke raaste pe chale ke khazana pa lein. Mahan Pita, jisko yagya karna chahiye, woh humein woh khazana de. Saare devta milkar usmein khush hon.

Inside Sukta 52

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

Aspiration to become Āditya-like—strong, lawful, and steady—standing firm in both divine and human spheres.

  2. Development

A focused petition to Mitra–Varuṇa for protective shelter over children and descendants, coupled with a plea not to suffer for guilt originating elsewhere and not to have consequences ‘fastened’ upon the innocent.

  3. Climax

The Angirases, moving swiftly on Savitṛ’s path, attain the ‘ratna’ (treasure)—a model of right motion leading to right reward.

  4. Where it settles

The hymn ends by asking the ‘mighty Father’ and all gods, united in mind, to accept and delight in the blessing—sealing the prayer with collective divine assent.

The deity: Ādityas

  • In the VedaThe Ādityas are guardians of ṛta (cosmic order), luminous and law-bearing powers; Mitra embodies covenant and concord, Varuṇa embodies sovereign oversight and moral restraint. Dyāvā-Pṛthivī are invoked as the archetypal, steady supports of the world, while Savitṛ is the impeller whose path leads to treasure and right movement.
  • Cosmic functionThey uphold order, bind society through truth and agreements, protect lineage and prosperity, and regulate the moral consequences of action; as Heaven-and-Earth they provide the stable frame in which sacrifice and life can stand, and as Savitṛ they impel beings toward auspicious attainment.
  • Inner significanceA call to become inwardly ‘Āditya-like’: truthful, steady, and protected by conscience—free from misplaced guilt—so one’s life becomes a reliable foundation for work, family, and worship, aligned with a higher impulsion (Savitṛ).

The seer

  • VasiṣṭhaVasiṣṭha-gotra (Vasiṣṭhas; Mānavas in later tradition) · Foremost seer of Maṇḍala 7, closely associated with royal consecration themes, moral order (ṛta), and the Mitra–Varuṇa theology of truth, law, and protection.
