Atri ne is mantra mein Mitra-Varuna ko bulaya hai, aur Varuna par zyada dhyan diya hai. Varuna ko aisa bataya gaya hai jiska roop hi dharam hai.

Mitra aur Varuna, tum dono bade samajhdar ho. Buraai ko khatam karne wale ho. Insaan ko samjha do ki Varuna ke liye bhent chadha de. Varuna dharam ke kaam karta hai, bada taqatwar hai.

Mantra 2

Yeh dono rajya ko sambhalte hain, koi dhoka nahi dene dete. Asli taqat paa lete hain. Jaise koi niyam hota hai, waise hi insaan ke andar aasman ka chamakta hua roshni aati hai.

Mantra 3

Dono devtaon ke liye yeh rath daud rahe hain. Unki kirnein aas-paas faili hui hain jaise charagah. Jo log yagya karte hain, unke liye hum acchi prarthana banate hain. Yeh prarthana hum apne mann mein pakad ke rakhte hain.

Mantra 4

Aap dono kavi ho aur ascharya karte hain.

Yeh dharam hai, dharti. Rishiyon ki badi kirti hai jo woh dhundhte hain.

Mitra aur Varun, aapki nazar bahut door tak jaati hai. Jab hum aur gyan wale log aapke paas aate hain, tab aapki shakti humein raksha karti hai. Hum swarg ki taraf kadam badhate hain.

Frequently Asked Questions

The hymn addresses Mitra–Varuṇa together, but it especially highlights Varuṇa as ṛta-peśas—Varuṇa whose very form is ṛta (cosmic and moral order).

It means “having ṛta as one’s form/raiment.” The idea is that Varuṇa embodies the structure of truth and right order, so offering to him is a way of aligning life with ṛta.

The hymn ends by seeking protection and guidance that lead toward svarājya—self-rule or inner sovereignty—where one’s mind and actions are governed by truth and clear discernment.
