Sukta 5.25

Devata

Agni

Is mantra mein Agni ki tareef hai jo sacche bhakt ko dhan aur naam deta hai. Agni aise sadhu logon ko balwan santaan bhi bakshata hai. Yeh aag ka devta dushman taakaton se raksha karta hai. Agni ko satya bolne wala aur rishi ka janma lene wala shakti bataya gaya hai. Woh bhakt ko dushmani ke paar le jata hai jaise kashti dariya se paar karti hai. Isliye yeh mantra safal yagya aur suraksha dono ke liye hai.

Inside Sukta 25

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

A direct turning ‘straight to Agni’ for aid—Agni is approached as the divine helper and giver of riches.

  2. Development

Agni is described as truth-established and seer-born, able to overcome hostility; the hymn links devotion and offering with tangible blessings such as fame, strength of mantra, and progeny.

  3. Climax

Agni’s boon: he grants the giver a renowned, mantra-rich, unconquered ‘son’—a peak statement of Agni’s power to establish continuity and excellence.

  4. Where it settles

The hymn ends with collective obeisance and the central protective image: Agni, of right resolve, carries the worshipper beyond all hatreds like a ship across waters.

The deity: Agni

  • In the VedaAgni is the divine Fire—bright, swift, and priestly—called the ‘son of the seers’ and established in ṛta (truth/cosmic order). He is praised as a giver of vasu (goods), fame, and a worthy son, and as the power that carries worshippers beyond hatred and harm.
  • Cosmic functionMediator between humans and gods: he receives offerings, conveys them to the deities, and returns blessings; he is also a purifier and protector who maintains ṛta through sacrificial order.
  • Inner significanceThe awakened inner fire—clarity, aspiration, and disciplined will—that transforms impulses into insight and carries the practitioner beyond inner ‘enemies’ (fear, anger, confusion) toward truth-aligned action.

The seer

  • Atri ĀtreyaĀtreya (Atri-gotra) · One of the foremost Vedic seers, celebrated for luminous insight and for hymns that present Agni as the priestly power linking humans and gods; associated in later tradition with profound tapas and the Atri lineage of rishis.
