nṛpatiṃ suvrato dhīro vasiṣṭho vākyam abravīt ||5||
Jab rishi Vashishth ne dekha ki saari duniya darr gayi hai, woh shaant reh gaye. Unhone apna vrat nahi chhoda. Raja se baat karne ke liye taiyaar ho gaye.
Great Vasishta, an adherent of ascetic practices and steadfast (to duty), seeing that the entire world frightened addressed the king, saying:
In moments when the world trembles, the steady voice of dharma (through the guru) must guide royal action.
Model of dhīratā (steadfastness) and measured speech; cultivate calm counsel in conflict.
The ‘world’ trembling mirrors the mind’s agitation; the steady guru-intellect restores equilibrium through right knowledge.
Muṇḍaka’s emphasis on approaching the teacher (ācārya) for guidance when the world appears unstable.
Universal fearfulness perceived (jagat-sarvaṃ trastarūpam)
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 1.21.21–1.21.22 (Vasiṣṭha’s exhortation and praise of Viśvāmitra’s astras)
Mahābhārata: Vidura/Bhīṣma-style counsel to kings in crisis
Ayodhyākāṇḍa: Vasiṣṭha’s role in royal counsel and rites
Anuṣṭup (śloka)
Solemn
Madhyama register, even cadence to reflect Vasiṣṭha’s dhīratā
When conflict arises, dharma is clarified through wise counsel. Vasiṣṭha steps in to restore balance between royal duty and the sanctity of a promise.
Seeing cosmic fear due to Viśvāmitra’s wrath, Vasiṣṭha intervenes and begins advising Daśaratha.
Vasiṣṭha’s steadiness and disciplined wisdom—responding to crisis with measured guidance rather than agitation.
