Sukta 97

Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (Saunaka)

Devata: Indra (with collective Devas as secondary)

Chandas: Triṣṭubh-like cadence (as transmitted in AV style; mixed/irregular possible)

Is sukta mein yagya ke zariye khushi aur safai mangi jaati hai. Indra se kaha jaata hai ki yagya aur uski saari cheezein saath saath jodi rakhein. Mann, irada, gaay-bhains, aur dhan sab ek jagah jud jaate hain. Yagya mein mantra ki taakat aur devtaon ka ashirwad dono chahiye. Svaha bolkar offering ko space mein set kiya jaata hai. Jab insaan ka irada, bol, aur bhagwan ki marzi mil jaati hai, tab yagya sahi lagta hai. Isse kalyan aur taakat milti hai.

Frequently Asked Questions

To make a sacrifice succeed in a unified way—aligning the performers’ mind, the rite’s resources (wealth/cattle), patron support, and the gods’ favor—so welfare and vigor result without obstruction.

It is a ritual ‘placement’ device: the offering is verbally established across the cosmic layers so it reaches the gods correctly and remains protected from being diverted or failing.

In the provided portion, no specific herbs or amulets are required. The key operative elements are correct recitation (well-formed speech), the svāhā seal, and the rite’s normal offerings and prosperity-symbols (such as cattle-wealth or its equivalents).
