Rishi: Atharvanic/Angiras-type attribution (as typical for AV healing/life rites; specific r̥ṣi assignment depends on the anukramaṇī tradition for 2.28).
Devata: Mitra-Varuṇa; Agni (Hotṛ) as ritual mediator
Chandas: Triṣṭubh (11-syllable cadence typical of the verse’s structure)
Is mantra mein rog aur maut se bachne ke liye Mitra aur Varuna ko bulaya jata hai. Agni sab kuch samajhta hai aur yeh sab theek se karta hai. Isse insaan ki jaan mein jaan aati hai aur saans mein saans. Dushman ya dost koi bhi bura nahi kar sakta. Aditi aur sab devta log lambi umar dete hain. Sharir chamakta hai aur budhape tak jee lo.
Mantra 1
Hey budha hone wali umar, tum badi ho jaao. Parantu maut ke sau dushman is aadmi ko na maarein. Jaise maa apne bete ko god mein leti hai, waise Mitra apne dost ki tarah is aadmi ko takleef se bachaaye.
Mantra 2
Mitra aur Varun milke is aadmi ko budha hone aur marne se bachaayein. Agni jo havan karta hai, woh sab jaanta hai. Woh bhagwanon ke kaam aur janam sab clear samajhta hai.
Mantra 3
Bhagwan, tum dharati ke saare jaanwaron ke maalik ho. Jo paida hue hain, jo bachche dene wale hain, sab tumhare haath mein hain. Is aadmi ki jaan mat chhodna. Saans chalti rahe, rukna nahi chahiye. Dost isko dukhi na karein, dushman bhi haath nahi uthaye.
Mantra 4
Aasman tumhara baap hai, dharati tumhari maa. Dono milkar is aadmi ko boodha hone se bachaayein, maut se bhi door rakhein. Jeevan mein Aditi ki god mein rehte hue, saans ke sahare, sau saal tak jiyega yeh aadmi.
Mantra 5
Agni, is aadmi ko lambi umr aur chamak tak le jaao. Varuna, Mitra raja, achi aulad do. Aditi, maa ki tarah isko suraksha do. Sab devata isko budha hone tak jiye, aisa karo.
It is used as a healing and life-prolonging recitation to avert decline and untimely death, stabilize the vital breaths, and place the person under orderly divine protection.
Together they represent concord and sovereign order (ṛta): by mutual agreement they ‘turn away’ jarā-mṛtyu, making protection effective both socially (Mitra) and juridically/apotropaically (Varuṇa).
Not necessarily. The hymn works primarily through prayer and ritual alignment; a fire (or simple flame) is the most natural support because Agni is the mediator who carries and ‘orders’ the rite.
