Devata: Āpaḥ (Waters).
Chandas: Anuṣṭubh-like (short, benedictive).
Is mantra mein paani ki taareef ki gayi hai. Paani ko zindagi dene wala bataya gaya hai. Bolne wala kehta hai ki main puri umar tak jiyun. Wo bar bar yahi dua maangta hai. Yeh paani ko jeevan ki taakat banata hai. Jaldi marna isse rukta hai. Isliye paani mein nai jaan aati hai.

आपः। जी॒वा स्थ॑ जी॒व्यासं॒ सर्व॒मायु॑र्जीव्यासम्
Paani mein jaan hai. Yeh dua hai ki main jeeta rahun. Main poora umar tak jiyun.

उ॒प॒जी॒वा स्थोप॑ जीव्यासं॒ सर्व॒मायु॑र्जीव्यासम्
Tum log mere jeene ka sahara bano. Main tumhare sahare jeeta rahun. Poora umar jeena mujhe naseeb ho.

सं॒जी॒वा स्थ॒ सं जी॑व्यासं॒ सर्व॒मायु॑र्जीव्यासम्
Tum log mujhe poora jeena sikhao. Main poora jeeta rahun. Poora umar jeena mujhe naseeb ho.

Tum log mujhe jeevan do. Main jeeta rahun. Poora umar jeena mujhe naseeb ho.
It is used to strengthen and protect life-force (āyus), especially to recover vitality and to avert premature death by consecrating water with life-benedictions.
In Vedic thought, waters are purifying and life-sustaining; this hymn personifies them as carriers of vitality (jīva/saṃjīva/jīvala) that can renew and complete one’s lifespan.
Recite the mantras over a vessel of clean water, then sip a little (and optionally sprinkle on the head/chest). The focus is the repeated request to ‘live out the whole lifespan’ (sarvam āyuḥ).
