He who, being born, overspread the Earth, who set the Ocean in the mid-air—of that God: this is the offence against the wrathful One, whoso, thus knowing, injureth a learned Brahman. Up—make him tremble, O Rohita; waste him away: in requital loose forth the nooses upon the Brahma-hurter.
Jab woh paida hua, usne poori dharti ko faila diya. Usne samundar ko aasmaan mein rakh diya. Jo koi jaan ke bhi brahmin ko takleef deta hai, woh us gusse wale bhagwan ka paapi hai. Rohita, usko hila de, usko khatam kar, jo brahmin ko dukh deta hai usko pakad ke faans mein daal.
Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (anukramaṇī attribution uncertain in this extract)
Devata: A cosmogonic ‘that god’ (tásya devásya), with Rohita as executing power
Chandas: Mixed/irregular; curse-refrain style
Primary: raudra
Secondary: adbhuta
