एतदेव यदा पद्ममभूद्धैरण्मयं जगत् । तद्वृत्तांताश्रयांतं तत्पाद्ममित्युच्यते बुधैः
etadeva yadā padmamabhūddhairaṇmayaṃ jagat | tadvṛttāṃtāśrayāṃtaṃ tatpādmamityucyate budhaiḥ
यह वही वृत्तान्त है जब पद्म प्रकट हुआ और जगत् स्वर्णमय हो गया। उसी कथा पर आश्रित होने से विद्वान इसे ‘पाद्म’ (पद्म-पुराण) कहते हैं।
