स्नेहात्करणरागश्च प्रजज्ञे वैषयस्तथा । अश्रेयस्कावुभावतौ पूर्वस्तत्र गुरुः स्मृतः
snehātkaraṇarāgaśca prajajñe vaiṣayastathā | aśreyaskāvubhāvatau pūrvastatra guruḥ smṛtaḥ
स्नेह से इन्द्रियों का राग उत्पन्न होता है और उसी से विषय-वासना भी जागती है। ये दोनों अश्रेय (अकल्याण) के कारण हैं; और इसमें पहला—स्नेह—ही मुख्य प्रेरक माना गया है।
