वाक्यज्ञेयेषु भिन्नेषु यत्राभेदः प्रदृश्यते । तत्रातिशयहेतुत्वं तत्सौक्ष्म्यमिति निर्दिशेत्
vākyajñeyeṣu bhinneṣu yatrābhedaḥ pradṛśyate | tatrātiśayahetutvaṃ tatsaukṣmyamiti nirdiśet
जब वाक्य से ज्ञेय विषय भिन्न-भिन्न हों, फिर भी जहाँ उनमें एक अन्तर्निहित अभेद दिखाई दे—उत्कर्ष-कारक सम्बन्ध को प्रकट करने वाली वही शक्ति ‘सौक्ष्म्य’ कहलाती है।
