आरेभिरे क्रियायोगं मार्कंडनृपपूर्वकाः । तेषां तपस्यतामेवं समाजग्मे कदाचन । तीर्थयात्रानुषंगेन लोमशालोकनोत्सुकः

राजा मार्कण्ड के नेतृत्व में उन्होंने क्रियायोग का आरम्भ किया। वे इस प्रकार तप में लगे थे कि किसी समय तीर्थयात्रा के प्रसंग से लोमश भी उन्हें देखने की उत्कंठा से वहाँ आ पहुँचे।
