Bhakti-Śraddhā-Ācāra-Māhātmya and the Commencement of the Mārkaṇḍeya Narrative
bhaktyā sidhyanti karmmāṇi karmmāṇi karmmābhistuṣyate hariḥ | tasmiṃstuṣṭe bhavejjñānaṃ jñānānmokṣamavāpyate || 32 ||
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It presents a graded path: bhakti empowers karma (right action/ritual), karma pleases Hari, divine pleasure yields jñāna, and jñāna culminates in mokṣa—showing liberation as the fruit of God-centered practice and insight.
Bhakti is the inner force that makes religious action spiritually effective; when actions are performed with devotion, Hari is satisfied, and His grace matures the practitioner into liberating knowledge.
The verse implies the correct application of karma-kāṇḍa disciplines—ritual performance guided by śrauta/smārta procedure (kalpa in practice)—but emphasizes that devotion is the essential ingredient that makes such karma spiritually fruitful.
