Cyavana Explains His Tests; Kuśika Seeks Brāhmaṇya for His Line (च्यवन–कुशिक संवादः)
निश्चित्य मनसा सर्व गुणदोषबलाबलम् | दग्धुकाम: कुलं सर्व कुशिकानां तपोधन:
niścitya manasā sarva-guṇa-doṣa-balābalam | dagdhukāmaḥ kulaṃ sarvaṃ kuśikānāṃ tapodhanaḥ |
भीष्म बोले—पूर्वकाल में भृगुपुत्र च्यवन को यह ज्ञात हो गया था कि कुशिक-वंश की कन्या से सम्बन्ध होने पर उसके अपने वंश में क्षात्रत्व का महान् दोष उत्पन्न होगा। तब उस तपोधन मुनिश्रेष्ठ ने मन-ही-मन गुण-दोष तथा बल-अबल का भलीभाँति विचार करके, कुशिकों के समस्त कुल को भस्म कर देने की इच्छा से दृढ़ निश्चय किया। ऐसा निश्चय कर वह कुशिक-राज के पास गया।
