यस्त्वत्र मन्त्रसमयो भारयपत्योर्मिथ: कृत: । तमेवाहुर्गरीयांसं यश्चासौ ज्ञातिभि: कृत:
yas tv atra mantrasamayo bhāryāpatyor mithaḥ kṛtaḥ | tam evāhur garīyāṁsaṁ yaś cāsau jñātibhiḥ kṛtaḥ ||
भीष्मजी बोले—पति और पत्नी के बीच परस्पर मन्त्र-उच्चारणपूर्वक जो प्रतिज्ञा होती है, वही सबसे श्रेष्ठ मानी जाती है। और यदि उसी बन्धन को कुटुम्बी-ज्ञातिजन भी स्वीकार कर समर्थन दें, तो वह और भी प्रशंसनीय होता है—क्योंकि उसमें व्यक्तिगत व्रत के साथ सामाजिक स्वीकृति और स्थिरता भी जुड़ जाती है।
